A "coming of middle age" comedic drama about two Black women who find themselves — and the next chapter of their lives — in the desert around Palm Springs.
Amina Harris finds herself drawn to the desert after the loss of her career, her mother, and her relationship during the pandemic. An invitation from her cousin El Williams to stay with her in Palm Springs kicks off a run of hilariously nonsensical misadventures. Complemented by a cast of colorful characters and situations you'll only find in Palm Springs, the season centers on El's attempt to open the desert's only "by women, for women" nightclub — with Amina pulled in as reluctant, over-qualified, over-involved help.
Season One tracks the bar's build-out from idea to opening night: permits, partners, a rotating cast of desert regulars, and the two cousins working out — sometimes loudly — what it means to actually need each other. Underneath the comedy, it's a story about starting over in your forties, the particular friction of family who love you and don't always trust you, and a place — Palm Springs — that turns out to be exactly strange enough to hold both.
